Master of ceremonies Jeffrey Hackler warmly welcomed large audiences to "Mix It Up!" – this year's Winter Dance Showcase – held on Saturday, December 6th at `Iolani School's Lower Gymnasium. The 2:00 and 5:30 p.m. programs featured a total cast of nearly three hundred talented performers. All upper school dance classes were joined by fourth through sixth graders from the Lower School Halau and Modern Jazz class.
The shows opened with a jazzy Christmas greeting presented by dance teachers Lehua Carvalho, Sean Nakayama, Cyrenne Okimura, and Lisa Simon. The faculty also made rare guest appearances with their dance students throughout both shows. Dancers participated in a collection of ancient and modern hula, jazz, as well as ballet presentations. Highlights included hula `auana performed by the elegant senior women, fun-loving cowboy male dancers, the meshing of graceful hula dancers with a lyrical soloist, young contemporary dancers inspired by love, as well as a joyful holiday production number.
