Latin Tradition Continues

In what has become a tradition, `Iolani seniors taking AP Latin Literature met at the fountain just prior to their exam on Friday afternoon. They honored their "choice author," Horace, and his fountain at Bandusia by reciting their version of his famous Ode III.xii which begins:

"O fountain of `Iolani, clearer than glass, worthy of sweet wine not without flowers, tomorrow you will be given a goat whose forehead swollen with first horns destines him for love and battles...."

After offerings of wine, flowers and a goat, the students were more than ready for the rigors of the last exam of the AP exam fortnight.

The results of the 2007 National Latin Exam were announced on May 1, 2007. `Iolani Latin students have again distinguished themselves on the exam. Of 219 students who took the exam, 200 (91%) received an award.  60% of the students who took the exam at level 1 or higher received either a gold or silver medal (Medals are not awarded for the Introductory level of the exam.) `Iolani students received 73 gold medals and 47 silver medals. Nine students achieved the distinction of a perfect score. The results, by level, are as follows:
