The Iolani Speech and Debate Team returned on Sunday from the Neighbor Island Tournament, held this year at Maui Community College. 
The tournament, the first state-qualifying tournament of the year, was substantially smaller than usual, but the Iolani team was able to emerge with three first place wins: Si Won Oak '08 in US Extemporaneaous Speaking, Jackie Mosteller '10 in Program Reading; and Jesse Franklin-Murdock '10 in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
Other students who broke into the final rounds were Ashlyn Koga '10 in Program Reading, Annie Rian '10 in Original Oratory, and Kaitrin Tobin '11 in US Extemporaneous Speaking. 
Private and public schools throughout the state were represented at the tournament.
Iolani has begun the qualifying season on a promising note; the students hope to continue their winning ways until the State tournament in April.
