The `Iolani Debaters had a dynamic and victorious weekend at their own two-day tournament, on Friday and Saturday. After seven preliminary rounds, sometimes being pitted against each other, many of our debaters found themselves in the final rounds. The following are the students who placed:
Varsity Policy Debate:
1st place: Lianne Ho ('09) & Lauren Ige ('08)
2nd place: Alexa Hettwer ('09) & Julia Zhang ('09)
JV Policy Debate:
3rd place: Thuy Ny Le ('11) & Shayne Rasay ('11)
Championship Lincoln-Douglas Debate:
1st place: Jesse Franklin-Murdock ('10)
3rd place: Katarina Hughes ('09)
All of the above are now qualified for the State Tournament in April. In addition to the successful individual showing, the team also won the sweepstakes trophy. The manifestation of the 'Iolani One Team philosophy with all the members of the team contributing to the victorious outcome was evident.
