Japanese Speech Winners

Three students represented `Iolani at the annual Japanese Speech Contest sponsored by KZOO Radio on March 15.

Satsu Holmes and Christina Tamaru both placed first respectively in Levels III and V. Si Won Oak, 'Iolani's level IV representative, won a special award for his inspirational speech which encouraged foreign language learning. As Christina won at the highest division of the competition, she will be representing the state of Hawaii at a national competition in California in May.

The national competition has been in existence for five years but this is an inaugural year for a Hawaii representative to participate. The winner of the national competition will then enter an international competition in Tokyo in July.
