Recently the 'Iolani Hiking Club ventured onto the very steep and exciting Mariner's Ridge Trail in Hawai'i Kai. 
The sweeping views of the Windward side included a bird's-eye view of Waimanalo Beach, Bellows Air Force Base, the stunningly beautiful Mokulua Islands, majestic Mt. Olomana and a picturesque coastline as far as Chinaman's Hat and Kualoa Ranch at the far end of Kane'ohe Bay.
Looking south and east, hikers saw the Maunaloa section of Moloka'i floating dreamily on an azure sea. They weren't sure whether it was the scenery or the elevation gain, but everyone decided that the precipitous climb was well worth the effort!"
