Serving Meals at IHS

On Thanksgiving Day, a group of benevolent FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) club members spent the morning preparing holiday meals for the homeless in Chinatown.  Parent and FCA sponsor Don Horner set up this project with the Institute of Human Services to help students understand how much they have to be thankful for.  Participants included Lauren Brown, Matthew Horner, Alyssa Pang, Kaitlyn Shikada and Jourdan Simmonds.

This munificent group made take-out plates to be delivered to low-income families and homeless who did not come to the shelter. On the plates was traditional Thanksgiving fare:  turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, assorted greens and pie.

“My hands hurt for a day after because we made about 200 plates,” Matt Horner observed. “The experience gave me a chance to see how it is for others less fortunate.”

When asked what impressed him, Matt said, “It was cool to see the IHS staff really cared about what they were doing,” said Horner.
