The 'Iolani Intermediate Speech Team took first place as a team at the Punahou Tournament last Saturday.
Coaches Mr. John Bickel and Mrs. Debra Otsu offered congratulations to team members and expressed confidence in the future of the speech program at 'Iolani.
Winning medals for high superior ratings were Zhaotong Xu, Zeke Kearns, Kenton Nakamura, Evan Chinn, Daniel Okubo, Ken-Ben Chao, and Miranda Shelly.
First place individual trophies went to Zeke Kearns in Impromptu Speaking and Miranda Shelly in Program Reading.
'Iolani competed against eight other schools and won the trophy for the highest percentage of superior ratings.
The Punahou Tournament is the last competition for the intermediate level schools and the only one at which students are ranked and not just given ratings.
