Raiders Win State Math Bowl

The team of Roydan Ongie (12), Kellie Young (12) and Scott Kaneshiro (11) captured the first place trophy at the State Math Bowl held at Kamehameha Hawaii this past Saturday.

Iolani took the early lead, but missed two problems and dropped to second place right after the intermission.

But when the problems got tougher and the point values were increased, Iolani came through in the clutch and ended the meet with 74 points.

Kamehameha Kapalama placed second with 66 points and Punahou took third with 54 points.

Maryknoll placed first in the small school division.

This is the fourth consecutive Math Bowl victory for Iolani, and the eighth in the last ten years.

As Coach Michael Park said, "Roydan, Kellie and Scott worked together as one team and represented Iolani with class and humility.  Congratulations and thanks to these fine mathematicians and people."
