Japanese Speeches at KZOO

On Saturday, May 12, five Iolani students participated in the 38th annual KZOO Radio Nihongo Hanashikata Taikai (speech contest) held at Hawaii Tokai International College.

Forty-three students from public and private schools throughout the state competed in five levels of competition.  The contestants were required to prepare their own speeches in Japanese and were judged based on delivery, enunciation, content and poise.

Reyn Ono placed first in the Level 2 division, Maya Krek placed third in the Level 3 division, and Caitlin Godwin placed first in the Level 4 division.

The Japanese teachers who coached the students are very proud of the effort the students put into preparing for the contest.

For those interested in listening to the competition, the speeches will be aired on KZOO AM 1210 daily starting Tuesday, May 15 to Friday, May 18 from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m.
