Young Writer Wins Award

Eighth grader, Anne Heslinga, is a winner in the NCTE Promising Young Writers program.

Her personal narrative, "Momotaro-San," and her timed impromptu essay about music's influence on her life brought her recognition in the nation-wide writing competition.

The two pieces of writing were judged on content, purpose, audience, tone, word choice, organization, development, and style.

Out of the 631 students who were nominated, 200 won Certificates of Recognition.

Anne's proud teacher who encouraged her writing and her entry in the contest is Ms. Yuki Basso.
