Mayor Hannemann Visits

Muliufi Hannemann, Mayor of Honolulu, 'Iolani Board of Governors member, past 'Iolani coach and teacher, and member of the 'Iolani class of 1972, returned to his Alma Mater Tuesday to speak with the leadership class taught by Ms. Melanie Soares and Mr. Kirk Uejio.

The class of 24 tenth graders used the meeting period to hear about the Mayor's experiences at 'Iolani and how they prepared him for his higher education at Harvard and for what he does now as the political leader of the City of Honolulu.

He shared "Mufi's Maxims" with the class, citing them as his twelve points to leadership success.  They included precepts such as being courageous, saying thank you, leading by example, living with core values, leaving your surroundings better than you found them, being prepared, having balance and keeping family first.

One of the students, Elissa Minamishin '10, presented him with a gift from the class, a shirt with the class motto on it, AIE (Attitude is Everything). XXL, of course.
