Character Education at Iolani
The Character Education Committee is empowered to design a comprehensive approach to the development of ethical reasoning and moral conduct which leads to "responsible, moral citizenship" by all persons in the Iolani School community.
The Committee will set programs in motion through which the school community may participate in further defining what it means to be a person who lives and acts with moral integrity. The Committee will define roles within the school community for areas of responsibility for the development and assessment of character education programs.
The Committee’s initiative will sustain and enhance the mission of Iolani School in endeavoring to provide a "spiritual foundation for the development of personal values and moral integrity." Such an integrated approach must provide opportunities for the positive reinforcement of values, consistency in the modeling of behavior, continuing assessment, and the active participation by all parts of the school community in the development and practice of character building.
