'Iolani Community Action Network - ICAN

The 'Iolani Community Action Network (ICAN) is dedicated to active citizenship of the 'Iolani community, and strengthening the bonds within the 'Iolani 'ohana and with the community at-large.

'Iolani Alumni gather annually for a global day of community service, "One Day, One Team," to make a difference in their neighborhoods. The 8th Annual ICAN "One Day, One Team" projects span the United States from Honolulu, San Francisco, Denver, Boston and to New York City. Please join alumni, family and friends to spread the aloha and make an impact as "One Team" in their local communities.

Join fellow alumni in Tokyo for a day of service on Saturday, November 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., volunteering for Habitat for Humanity (H4H), an organization dedicated to provide local families with secure, stable futures through affordable homes, financial literacy, and neighborhood revitalization. The 'Iolani Gumi will be assisting with H4H Japan's Project HomeWorks to aid the elderly, low income families, and disabled residents in or near the Nakano Ward to improve their living environment by helping to clean and repair their homes.

ICAN Honolulu will return to work with one of our favorite partner communities, Pālolo Valley, for our annual day of service. Participants will help beautify the Palolo Valley Housing administration building which houses all the community's key services including the maintenance department and Learning Center. The project will help give this critical structure a happy look with a fresh coat of paint, beautiful healthy plants and a few touch-ups here and there.

The 'Iolani Alumni Boston Club invites students and local residents to join them as they return to Y2Y in Cambridge, MA on Saturday, November 4. Y2Y is an emergency shelter for young adults between the ages of 18-24. The shelter is a student-run safe environment for your adults experiencing homelessness and helps them to develop skills for long-term success. The ICAN group will be assisting with general deep cleaning of the shelter.

Join 'Iolani Alumni in the Big Apple for a fun afternoon assisting the Ronald McDonald House New York with their out-of-House Wizard of Oz themed event for the families of children who are battling cancer. We will be assisting with craft projects at the event, and the set-up and breakdown of the activities. Volunteers 18 years of age and older are welcome to participate.

Join fellow alumni in the San Francisco / Bay Area for a day of service, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity (H4H), an organization dedicated to provide local families with secure, stable futures through affordable homes, financial literacy, and neighborhood revitalization. The ReStore is the home-improvement store of H4H, where fixtures and furnishings are received and resold, and all proceeds go towards the H4H mission! We will be organizing and cleaning merchandise, helping unload shipments, and assisting customers. It's a fast-paced, retail environment where priorities shift throughout the day.

Attire: Casual clothing you don’t mind getting dirty, and sturdy, closed-toed footwear. Bring a water bottle and leave valuables at home.
