Continuous Learning
As a student-centered campus, we pride ourselves on our community relationships and have seen the strength of that tenant over the last year in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Building upon last year's success, the school has outlined a clear plan and is ready to accommodate any State required shutdown, or respond immediately to on-campus Covid-19 cases, on an individual, small group or large mass scenario. Our current distance learning program is designed to accommodate each scenario with the hopes of providing a continuous, quality education.
Please see below to read about the school's plan for success on and off campus.
Safety
Prevention and preparation are the best strategies in keeping our community safe. This visual outlines the six prevention strategies for 2020-21 school year.
Lower School
Morning routines will now include the ‘Iolani School Covid-19 Symptom Survey via mobile app.
All classrooms are configured for social distancing of at least 6 feet. A classroom is a cohort that plays, eats and learns together.
PPE and hand cleaning serve as another important step in keeping our keiki safe throughout the day.
Lunches are picnic style, outdoors, allowing for face mask breaks, fresh air and classroom sanitization.
Upper School
Morning routines now include the ‘Iolani School Covid-19 Symptom Survey via mobile app.
All classrooms are configured for social distancing of at least 6 feet. Passing times have been staggered, and increased, to reduce crowding.
PPE and hand cleaning serve as another important step in keeping our students safe while engaged in learning or spending time together.
Outdoor lunches in cohorts will allow for face mask breaks and classroom sanitization. Students visit with friends while eating their boxed lunches.
LS Home Learning & Support
An ‘Iolani School education is always within reach. Be it at home or in the class, we are committed to providing our students with a quality education.
In the Lower School students learning from home will receive specialized online support. Curriculum and assignments will continue to be created by the student's primary teacher as to keep pace with the class, however designated online faculty will be assigned to fully support the online learner. The online faculty teaches, grades, schedules small groups (as needed) and ensures the support team is organized, meeting the needs of each diverse situation. Additional supports like Peer Ambassadors and grade counselor check-ins will ensure that being pulled from a classroom does not mean missing out academically, socially or spiritually.
