From the Interim Head of School

Melanie K. Pfingsten

Aloha mai kākou and welcome to ʻIolani School!

We are honored that you are interested in learning more about our community—one rich in both tradition and innovation. Nationally recognized for our rigorous curriculum, cutting-edge facilities and commitment to excellence, ‘Iolani equips students with the intellectual agility and character needed to thrive at top universities and lead with purpose in their chosen fields.

At ʻIolani, we ground innovation in a tradition of servant leadership and global responsibility, inspired by our founders, King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma. Our students are driven and compassionate, competitive yet humble, and prepared to lead with integrity and vision.

From the earliest grades through graduation, ʻIolani students engage in dynamic learning experiences, with opportunities to think, speak, write and solve problems -- AND to collaborate, play, experiment and imagine. In small classes, students of diverse backgrounds and talents are known and mentored by a talented and dedicated faculty -- educators who understand that the best learning happens in the context of meaningful relationships. These relationships extend beyond the classroom into a vibrant array of opportunities in STEM, the arts, athletics, clubs and service.

Exceptional spaces inspire our students to dream, wonder, and reach. State-of-the-art learning environments -- including the Sullivan Center for Innovation and Leadership, the K-1 Community, the Kaneshiro Science and Innovation Center, and the Kosasa Performance Studios -- prepare students for their bright futures while making room for creative discourse, invention and expression. In 2026, we will further elevate this experience with the opening of the Arrillaga Student Center, strengthening our commitment to student wellness, connection and community.

One Team is the hallmark of the ʻIolani experience: a school-wide commitment to collaboration, gratitude, humility and the understanding that success is built in partnership with others. This ethos instills a deep sense of kuleana -- a personal responsibility to support others, contribute to the greater good and embody the strength of a unified community. We know we are better together.

We are proud to offer a transformative education that empowers students to push boundaries, pursue excellence and make meaningful contributions to the world. We invite you to visit our campus and experience firsthand what makes ʻIolani School an extraordinary place to learn and grow.

Me ke aloha pumehana,
With Warm Regard,

Mrs. Melanie K. Pfingsten, M.Ed.
